Braving threats of a winter storm, 93 members of the Foothills Riding Club (FRC) gathered on Saturday, 12 January 2019, to celebrate volunteers and horse show award winners at the 4th annual gala held at Spiegel Farms, Landrum, SC. The gala featured DJ Van, who kept all the guests dancing and mingling, while guests enjoyed fabulous food from Bagatelle, and winners were presented with volunteer awards and show awards. The event also featured a raffle and a Silent Auction.
The FRC President, Cathy Schwartz recognized returning board member Margo Savage as membership chair, while also sharing the entire board’s gratitude for those outgoing members of the FRC board: Jillian Woolridge (former volunteer coordinator), Stacey Quaranta (outgoing membership chair), Kailey Beck (outgoing educational co-chair), Hatsie Goodrich (former community engagement), Jenna Marshman (outgoing publicity and marketing). Current board members, who will be keeping the FRC running smoothly, are: President/Show Chair Cathy Schwartz, Vice President/Webmaster KC Betzel (who was also event photographer), Secretary Bri Ambrosic, Treasurer Natalie Schembra, Volunteer/Publicity chair Carole Foster, Community Outreach and Environmental Initiatives Virginia Maclure, new Membership Chair Margo Savage, Hospitality Chair Jane Lynch, Educational and Clinic Co-chairs Jan Bellows and Barbara Clarke.
Volunteer award winners won an FRC polo shirt, an FRC fleece vest, or an FRC jacket, based on the number of hours volunteered. The volunteers of the year were Gerry and Sarah Zordan, while husband of the year went to Quentin Beck. The FRC also wished to recognized Janet Stone, who voluntarily publishes the FRC newsletter every month.
Each year the FRC Awards gala features a raffle for three lucky attendees. This year the FRC wishes to thank The Farmhouse for the donation of a beautiful dressage bridle which was won by Jenny Gardner, also gratitude to Landrum Hardware for the most comprehensive muck-tub bucket of tools for any horse owner, which was won by Kailey Holden Wortman, and a thanks for the generous gift certificate for $100 to Side Street Pizza which was won by Susan Faulkner
The event wrapped up with a friendly yet competitive silent auction with donations from the generous local businesses up for bidding. Next year’s auction is sure to be even bigger!
